Pope's newspaper pushes feminist rewrite of Catholic doctrine - LifeSite

Tue Aug 25, 2026 - 8:10 am EDT (LifeSiteNews) — The Pope’s newspaper has published a series reimagining historic Catholic teaching on the devil, sin, and Church history through a feminist-revisionist lens. L’Osservatore Romano – the official newspaper of the Holy See – published a series of articles in its July 2026 women’s supplement, Women Church World, in which several scholars attempt to dismantle the Traditional doctrine on the devil and his real existence, original sin, the capital vices, and the relationship between theology and the Magisterium, applying a feminist-inspired doctrinal revisionism. “Historically, the world can be divided into two distinct periods: one in which the devil existed outside us, taking on the concrete forms handed down by popular culture, such as the fallen angel or the cloven-hoofed goat, and another in which we came to realise that evil resides within us,” writer Dacia Maraini – presented as “one of the most authoritative voices of feminism since the …

German Bishop Opposes Efforts to Convince People of the Gospel

Bishop Gerhard Feige of Magdeburg, Germany, has criticized calls for new evangelization strategies as a response to declining Church membership.
“I am very skeptical of strategies and methods aimed at deliberately persuading people,” Monsignor Feige told Herder Korrespondenz in its September issue.
Addressing secularization, pluralization, individualization, increased mobility and digitalization, Bishop Feige said: “Methods of evangelization hardly seem to me to be the right response to these complex phenomena.”
Instead, the bishop argued that the Church should focus on living out its mission through service to others, “It is not about imposing the Gospel on people,” he said. “The present age challenges us to be a Church that is as authentic and committed to serving others as possible.”

Kenya: Fake Priest Celebrates Mass Alongside Bishop Before Being Exposed

A fake priest in Kenya managed to concelebrate the Eucharist alongside Bishop John Mbinda of Lodwar before being exposed.
Jones Bogonko Onchonga used forged documents to pose as a Catholic priest and “celebrate” Eucharists in several churches.
Suspicions arose during a Eucharist on August 9, when Catholics noticed irregularities in his celebration: he appeared tense and left the altar during the service. A photo was shared among local clergy, prompting questions about his liturgical identity.
The Diocese of Lodwar later confirmed that he was not an ordained priest, but a married layman and father of two.
He now faces criminal charges over the alleged impersonation and use of false documents.
According to Fides, police said Onchonga confessed to having impersonated a priest for almost two years.

FSSPX to Continue Lourdes Pilgrimage Despite Bishop’s Restrictions

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX) has announced that it will continue its annual pilgrimage to Lourdes.
Following the episcopal consecrations on July 1 in Ecône, Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes withdrew permission for the SSPX to celebrate public Masses, administer sacraments, or organize public prayers at Lourdes.
In an August 22 statement, Fr. Gonzague Peignot, superior of the FSSPX in France, announced that the Fraternity intends to continue coming to Lourdes every year, “Our Lady does not deserve to be abandoned despite the obstacles,” he said.
The FSSPX expressed 'sorrow and incomprehension', questioning the bishop's decision and pointing to the interreligious Christian-Muslim pilgrimage that was welcomed at the sanctuary in October 2025.
For now, the FSSPX faithful intend to remain present at Lourdes, but their pilgrimage will no longer be able to take the same public form as in previous years.

Peruvian Prelates Violate First Commandment at Event Promoting LGBT Ideologies and “Comprehensive Sex Education”

Rorate Coeli reported published a report from InfoVaticana yesterday morning showing that two Catholic bishops and a monsignor participated in a pagan ritual (venerating and praying to Pachamama) in a conference intended to prepare the way for Pope Leo’s trip to Peru this November. The initial story came from the Vatican News, and unsurprisingly, Vatican News omitted several key details. The event titled “Weaving Voices for Dignity: For Human Rights and the Common Good” was organized by three organizations: Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CNDDHH), Comisión Episcopal de Acción Social (Episcopal Commission for Social Action of the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference), and Derechos Humanos Sin Fronteras. In addition to representatives from unnamed “social organizations, Indigenous peoples and communities, grassroots groups, leaders, and human rights defenders,” the list of participants in the event included Bp. Cardinal Vesco: Netanyahu Wants the Palestinian People to “Disappear”

During the Consistory, Leo XIV told the cardinals, “Support me, stand with me in this battle against war,” pro-homosexual Cardinal Jean-Paul Vesco of Algiers told IlMessaggero.it on August 23.
Questioning the “Just War”
Cardinal Vesco questioned the Christian concept of a just war, arguing that “for those who are fighting, their own war is always just.” While acknowledging a right to self-defense, he asked, “But up to what point?”
“In any case, war itself is not just. In the end, we no longer know where to draw the line.”
Israel and its “Settlements, Settlements, Settlements”
On Gaza, CardinalVesco recalled living in Jerusalem for two years and visiting Gaza several times during the Intifada: “I experienced the checkpoints and saw with my own eyes the humiliation they represented. Today it is much worse.”
Even then, he said, it was difficult to believe in a two-state solution because the Israeli authorities did not want one: “Netanyahu has not wanted it for more than twenty years.”

German Bishop: Perceived Absence of God Expands Homosexual Practices: “Conservative” Bishop Stefan Oster of Passau said in his Assumption homily that the lifestyles, sexual preferences and identities displayed at Christopher Street Day are difficult to reconcile with the Christian view of humanity: “The perceived absence of God has massively expanded the scope of what is possible within the entire context surrounding sex and gender.” Oster asked: “Is the writer Dostoevsky ultimately right when he says, ‘If God does not exist, then everything is permitted’?”

On 23 August, at Holy Family Church in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, a woman knelt at the Communion rail during Communion. Just as the priest was about to give her Communion, she stood and handed him a flower. Despite Communion being distributed by intinction, she grabbed the Host and then took the chalice used for intinction, drank from it, and threw it onto the floor before leaving the church with an escort. The priest immediately purified the area where the Precious Blood had been spilled.

Nuncio Negotiates Exit of Italian Bishop, 64, After Vatican Visitation

Bishop Guido Gallese, 64, of Alessandria, Piedmont, is reportedly set to be removed from his diocese.
LoSpiffero.com wrote on August 23 that the Apostolic Nuncio to Italy, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, has been handling negotiations over Gallese’s exit following an Apostolic Visitation conducted by Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello earlier this year.
Bishop Gallese, who is described as reluctant to leave, had sought a transfer to another diocese, but the proposal was rejected.
Archbishop Peña Parra, who previously served as the Substitute for General Affairs in the Vatican Secretariat of State, offered the bishop several possible “ways out.”
The solution now under discussion would see Bishop Gallese become ecclesiastical assistant to the Collegamento Nazionale Santuari, Italy’s national network of Catholic shrines.
Ansa.it reported that the Apostolic Visitation focused on the administration and finances of the diocese amid controversy over the bishop’s lifestyle. Considerable media attention …Hafa

Cordileone: “Powerful Forces in the West” Are Forcing Their Culture on Africa: Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone warned that Western society has lost its understanding of family. He spoke during the August 22 ordination of 14 priests in Makurdi, Nigeria. “We no longer understand these basic truths in the West, not even what it means to be a family born of a mutual self-giving love of husband and wife,” Cordileone said. He described Western society as increasingly lifeless and self-centered: “Even more serious are the powerful forces in the West that are forcing this on the rest of the world, especially here in Africa,” he said. “Thank you for resisting. I know the pressure is great, especially for national leaders on this continent.”

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly as a member of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family, and Life. The Vatican announced Kelly’s appointment on Aug. 25.
The dicastery was created by Pope Francis in 2016 to promote, as stated in its statutes, “the apostolate of the lay faithful, the pastoral care of the family and its mission according to God’s plan and for the safeguard and support of human life.” The dicastery is also the Vatican office responsible for organizing the international World Youth Day (WYD).
Its members are not full-time staff and do not need to relocate to Rome. Rather, they attend plenary sessions in Rome and vote on decrees.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell has served as its prefect since 2016, the year it was founded.
