‘We could have had a massacre’ – French MEP demands attempted murder charge after protesters burn police station and block exit
A French member of the European Parliament and former police commissioner called for attempted-murder charges Thursday after masked protesters set fire to the entrance of a Bordeaux police station, blocking officers inside as smoke filled the building.
Matthieu Valet, now affiliated with the National Rally, said the attackers blocked the main door of the Capucins station and ignited trash bins piled against it while officers were still inside.
“It’s a criminal act of extreme gravity; we could have had a massacre,” MEP Valet wrote on X. “The perpetrators must be found and prosecuted for attempted murder. Ten years after the Viry-Châtillon attack, where police officers were burned alive while trapped in their patrol car, nothing has changed.”

During the Vatican meeting marking the tenth anniversary of Amoris Laetitia, Pope Leo XIV and Cardinal Mario Grech both used language suggesting that different local Churches may develop different "pastoral" approaches.
As so often with synodal language, the implications remain ambiguous: neither explicitly says that different countries may adopt contradictory teachings or sacramental rules.
Leo XIV called for episcopal conferences and local Churches to discern “new paths.”

On October 8, Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, archbishop of Goa and Daman and president of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences gave a speech on family life at the Paul VI Hall in Vatican City. His address was part of the summit to mark ten years of Amoris Laetitia. It's titled, "Families today: reality, beauty and challenges: Discerning the signs of the times through the experience of families and the Church’s pastoral commitment today."
We noted the cardinal's remarks make no mention to what the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches about the family. Not one biblical reference. Not a mention of the words mother, father and children is only mentioned as an example at the end.

Canada's governing Liberal governemnt voted against the proposed legislation to ban euthanasia for those with mental illness. The Justice Minister and Attorney General Sean Fraser has said that euthanasia for Canadians whose sole underlying condition will not be legalized. The Liberal government is talking from both sides of its mouth. Why then vote against Bill C-218 which would have made it illegal for those suffering with mental illness to take their lives?
The answer is that the Liberal governemnt is intent on making it easier for Canadians to choose death through MAiD, Medical Assistance in Dying. Minister Fraser plans to introduce legislation to permit advance requests for euthanasia.
