If you’ve come across any German media headlines of late, you might be understandably confused. From Süddeutsche Zeitung on September 15: “Policewoman allegedly raped 14-year-old girl.”
Now to FOCUS Online: “Policewoman allegedly raped 14-year-old girl in toilet.”
Let’s try Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung: “Policewoman allegedly raped teenage girl.”
TZ’s headline had more detail: “Teen rape, brutal pornography: disturbing allegations against ex-policewoman.”
Of course, as you may have already deduced, it is not a “policewoman” on trial for the rape of a 14-year-old girl. The alleged perpetrator is a 55-year-old man who calls himself Maja Schmid and identifies as transgender. Schmid had previously worked for the Federal Police Inspectorate in Rosenheim for 35 …

The pro-life organization Aid to Women has been operating in the GTA for over 40 years counselling abortion-minded women to choose life for themselves and their babies. They encourage those women by pledging to support them and their babies the first two years of their child’s life with everything from diapers, clothing, car seats, strollers, food and much, much more. Aid to Women will be conducting a Baby Bottle for Life fund raising campaign at all weekend Masses on September 19 and 20. They will be handing out empty baby bottles and asking you to take them home and fill them with coins, bills and cheques and return the filled bottles at all the Masses on October 17 and 18. St Peter’s Basilica and cathedrals will be abused as event venues to mark a United Nations observance.
On 21 September, the UN International Day of Peace, St Peter's Basilica ’s will play Sounds of Loss, an international audio installation by German filmmaker Philip Gröning.
For 49 hours, 1,096 prerecorded clicks and taps will sound at irregular intervals, each intended to represent a person killed in war.
Gröning and his team recorded more than 24,000 sounds - from clocks, light switches, locks, pencils and other everyday objects. The installation is designed to span 21 September across all world time zones.
At the Vatican, the installation is located in the atrium of St Peter’s Basilica.
Other venues include the Berliner Dom and Zionskirche in Berlin, St John the Divine in New York, Verona Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne and the National Museum of Singapore.

Leo XIV wants to beatify controversial Aids-Priest Don Luigi.
Leo XIV has opened the way towards the beatification of Luigi Di Liegro (1928–1997), a Roman priest who wanted to be close to people dying of AIDS. The pope made the announcement on Friday during the diocesan assembly in the Basilica of St John Lateran.
He said he had “gladly approved” the steps necessary to begin the diocesan investigation into Di Liegro’s life, virtues and reputation for holiness.
The most controversial episode of Di Liegro’s ministry came in 1988. As head of Caritas Rome, he insisted on opening a home for people with AIDS at Villa Glori in Parioli — an affluent Roman neighbourhood.

A small Catholic shrine dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and Fray Leopoldo in Ceuta was vandalized. A local woman who discovered the destruction said the site had long been used by worshippers to leave religious images and devotional objects. The perpetrators have not been identified.
