“Encounter” (Encontro) is a white-marble sculpture by Portuguese architect and artist Álvaro Siza Vieira, unveiled in the Vatican Gardens on September 24. The anthropomorphic work depicts a slender, stylized figure positioned near an olive tree and facing the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. It was previously displayed as part of the Holy See Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Biennale. Today in Paris, Pope Leo XIV linked France’s revolutionary motto - “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” [or Death] - with the Gospel. Speaking to French civil authorities at the Élysée Palace, Leo XIV called the three principles “universal ethical imperatives” that “find in the Gospel message an inexhaustible source of inspiration and fulfillment.” The motto stems from the demonic French Revolution, which unleashed severe persecution of the Church. French traditional Catholics managed to hand a letter to Pope Leo XIV. Yesterday evening, on the sidelines of the vigil at the Stade de France, an alternative prayer vigil was held outside the Apostolic Nunciature, asking Pope Leo XIV to allow greater access to the sacraments and Mass in the traditional rite. According to BVoltaire.fr, Catholics greeted Pope Leo XIV upon his arrival at the Nunciature in Paris and handed him a letter. One Catholic said: “We want to let the Pope know that there is in France a large, very dynamic traditional community.” Another added: “We would like to have more churches and resources to celebrate the traditional Mass.”

Hosts from tabernacle scattered across a town square. On September 19, unknown perpetrators entered the Sacred Heart of Mary parish church in Guitiriz, Lugo, Spain, forced open the tabernacle and stole the silver ciborium containing hosts. They were later found scattered outside in the town square. The Diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol described the incident as a grave profanation of the Eucharist. The parish filed a complaint and the Guardia Civil opened an investigation. Investigators are reportedly reviewing security cameras from nearby businesses. Bishop Fernando García Cadiñanos will celebrate a Eucharist of reparation at the church on 29 September.
