Catholic Sisters challenge New York state assisted suicide law.

Executive Director, Euthanasia Prevention Coalition Madeleine Long reported for the Free Press on July 17, 2026that several orders of Catholic Sisters and Catholic healthcare are challenging the New York assisted suicide law because the law requires them to inform their patients that they can have assisted suicide. The law also conflicts with the federal law that prohibits federal funding from being used for assisted suicide. New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed the assisted suicide bill into law in February and the law will come into force on August 5, 2026.
