I believe it was deliberate. Fauci helped with illegal 'gain of function' to create the Covid bioweapon. They tested it by intentionally releasing Covid. They expected their bioweapon to kill faster than it did. Thus, they released Omicron, a more virulent strain.
I believe it's very possible that it was deliberate. I've heard stories about brilliant and egotistical microbiologists going rogue.
