A tourist dies crushed by the cross of Pope John Paul II in Brescia

A young tourist of 20 years died Thursday crashed after the collapse of a huge cross near Brescia, in northern Italy.

The Cross of Christ the Redeemer was installed in a mountainous area on the occasion of the visit of Pope John Paul II in Brescia in September 1998.

The young man from the region of Bergamo, was an excursion in the area with his fellow from the campus ministry, according to ANSA news agency and the "Corriere della Sera".

The cross, high over 30 meters, has apparently broken suddenly and the highest portion fell on the group, killing the young instantly.
